Strength In Christ

Paul said in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him [Christ] who strengthens me.”

We need to understand what Paul was saying by that and what he was not saying. If we read the preceding verses, the context tells us that Paul was NOT saying: “Because I have faith in Jesus, I am going to be wealthy, everything’s going to go my way, and I will be successful in all my earthly endeavors.”

Notice what Paul DID say: “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in WHATEVER situation I am to be CONTENT. I know how to be BROUGHT LOW, and I know how to ABOUND. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing PLENTY and HUNGER, ABUNDANCE and NEED” (Philippians 4:11-12).

What Paul meant by “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” is that no matter what comes my way, good times or bad, success or failure, I have strength through Jesus Christ my Lord and hope for an eternal future.
